London is my absolute favorite city. There is no place that has such an air of mystery and excitement. Almost everywhere you walk, you see something that reminds you of its glorious past and at the same time, reminds you that the city is at the cutting edge of Western culture. Music, literature, the arts, food, fashion, all have their nexus there. Standing in Piccadilly Circus or on St. James Street, one becomes instantly aware that they are standing at the heart of the world’s cultural center. 

 
Free National Historic Site Tour

Friends of the Chicago Portage are offering a free public tour at the Chicago Portage National Historic Site on Saturday August 7th at 10:00 A.M. One ofonly two national historic sites in Illinois, the Chicago Portage National Historic site is the only place where you can stand on the same ground walked by all the early explorers, early settlers, and creators of Chicago. This tour will be lead by veteran tour guide Jeff Carter who will be assisted by noted Fur Trade author and historian Jake Ilko. They will explore the “Birth Story of Chicago” from the geological beginnings of the Portage to how it is still functioning in Chicago today. The Tour is about a ½ mile in length on a gravel path through the woods andwill take about 2 hours.
